This friendly and caring residential home has been specially designed with older people in mind and caters for people from all walks of life. Established for more than seventy years, Corton House - while providing care for the less able - encourages residents to be as independent as possible. All residents are recognised as individuals with their own needs and requirements.
Address: Corton House, City Road, Norwich, NR1 3AP
Here at Corton House our dedicated Activities & Wellbeing Coordinators offer a good mix of activities and entertainment – something for everyone to enjoy.
Residents are welcome to join in with as much or as little as they'd like, and we will always respect the need for down time and privacy.
If a resident is unable to leave their room or bed they will not be left out – whether it’s simply ensuring they are tuned into a favourite radio station, having a cuddle with our visitng therapy dog or receiving a relaxing hand massage: residents' wellbeing is our priority.
Our Activities Representatives are a group of residents who meet regularly to ensure the activities at Corton House reflect residents' interests. Reps are included in the decision-making process when booking entertainment and reviewing the entertainers that come in.
We are firm believers that you are never too old to try something new! If a resident would like to learn something or try their hand at a new skill, we will always do our best to facilitate this.
Our home is part of a vibrant local community and our relationships with local schools, charities, churches and faith groups help to keep residents connected with the wider world. We are the only local care home to offer free membership of our nearest branch of the u3a Norwich (formerly University of the Third Age) meaning Corton House residents can attend their series of talks and groups for free.
An important part of providing good care includes varied and nutritional food. All our meals are prepared and cooked in our kitchen using fresh, seasonal produce from our local suppliers - or on occasion from our very own veg garden! Our kitchen team has had a local authority 5 star hygiene rating for the past five years.
Dietary needs can be catered for and food is prepared to suit the changing needs of our residents. A vegetarian option is always available.
Drinks and snacks are freely available throughout the day from our snack station and the coffee machine in our Colman Cafe; the perfect spot to meet with a visitor for a cuppa and a chat.
We like to make meal times a social occasion but appreciate that not everyone will wish to sit with others. Residents may take a meal in their room if this is their choice.
Our residents’ bedrooms are their own private place and we encourage residents and families to make this their own space. Many residents bring in pictures and even their own furniture to make their room truly homely. Residents’ own rooms have ensuite facilities, many with walk in showers, all rooms are equipped with emergency call facilities and personal television and telephone points if required.
All our rooms are easily accessible with easy wheelchair access throughout the building and with lift access for those on the first floor.
Following an extensive refurbishment in 2024, our home is light and airy with interior designed communal spaces. There are a variety of lounge areas throughout, including the Myers Lounge with Sky TV and space for visiting entertainment; the Garden Room with its puzzle table overlooking our beautiful walled garden, and the reception area and Snug, perfect for watching the comings and goings in Corton House.
Our panelled dining room, Nelson's Restaurant, and the adjoining Colman Cafe are charming surroundings for you to enjoy a meal or a coffee from our self service machine.
The Cavell Leisure room is a bright and comfortable space in which activities, arts and crafts take place.
On the first floor we have a quiet room with dementia resource library, and our relaxing salon with a choice of visiting hairdressers.
Our wonderful garden is one of the focal points of the home, with patio, summer house, beautiful mature plants and trees, and raised veg beds for residents to tend their own produce should they so wish.
As a not for profit organisation, we strive to offer excellent care at highly competitive rates. We compare our fees annually to other local providers to ensure residents receive the greatest value for money possible. For the most up to date information on fees, please get in touch with us using the contact form or on the details below:

Corton House was founded by the Norwich Free Church and is proud of its Christian ethos. However, we are open to all faiths or none.
Our wonderful Chaplain, Rev. Rhonwen Washford, has been officially licensed as Chaplain of Corton House by the Norwich Diocese.
Rhonwen offers weekly worship services, and will support residents to attend their regular place of worship if possible.
She also offers one to one sessions as a listening ear for all those in need of it, regardless of their beliefs.
